April 2012: The Rendezvous in Palm Springs

Sandy and I enjoy visiting the desert before the temperatures hit triple digits so we chose Palm Springs for this month’s Full Moon Adventure. We began our adventure by having lunch with an old friend at the newly opened patio café behind The Shield’s Date Shack in Indio and the weather did not disappoint as we shared a good laugh and an excellent meal. After saying good bye to our friend Sandy and I took a leisurely drive down Highway 111 through Ranch Mirage, Palm Desert, Cathedral City and finally into downtown Palm Springs. Our ultimate destination was The Rendezvous a bed and breakfast originally built in the 1930’s and refurbished in the ‘50s to its’ current ten room courtyard format. Each room has its’ own 1950’s theme and Sandy and I landed in The Stagecoach Suite. Our room was filled with pictures of old western favorites like Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and former Newport Beach resident John Wayne. Each room faces the pool and free blue Raspberry martinis are served poolside every afternoon weather permitting. We chose to skip “happy hour” as we knew we had a short walk to dinner at a local’s hangout called Copley’s. This quaint award winning restaurant is located on Palm Canyon Drive and is part of the late Cary Grant’s estate. Once you step into their patio you can’t help but feel nostalgic as you catch a glimpse of old Palm Springs and the stunning views of the mountains. Our only disappointing part of the evening is that due to our bungling waiter we were unable to try Chef Copley’s homemade ice cream. All in all it was a very enjoyable night out in this beautiful desert Mecca. The next morning we were treated to a three course gourmet breakfast while being serenaded by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. It made for the perfect sendoff as we packed up and made the short drive back home feeling refreshed and as always happy to be back home in The Bluffs.
