Like most Californians, my wife Sandy and I are always busy with family, friends and work. But everyone needs to step back from their daily routines once in awhile to recharge their batteries. That’s why we began a monthly ritual we have since lovingly nicknamed “Full Moon Adventures”. We look forward to sharing these fun, short trips to romantic destinations throughout California with you each month!

February 2012: Oceanside
Sandy and I had a very special December holiday flavored full moon adventure so on her suggestion I will not post that one until next November in the hopes that some of you might want to spend an evening next Christmas season doing the same. Family commitments and business trips found us hard pressed to take a trip in January so we took a month off from our monthly adventures. Before we knew it February’s full moon was upon us and we decided to take a quick trip to a place we had been talking about for years. Oceanside. Yes, Oceanside!!! I know whenever people hear Oceanside they think Marines and Camp Pendleton so then you will understand my less than enthusiastic attitude as we motored down the 405 on a rainy blustery day. I had booked us into The Oceanside Marina Suites a place Travel Advisory.com described as “a very well maintained facility” which I found their description about as reliable as some of MapQuest’s driving directions if you know what I mean. Sandy forever the optimist said everything including our “suite” would look better once the rain stopped. Meanwhile the rain kept coming as we drove the short half mile to one of the last Jolly Roger restaurants left in Orange County for dinner. The “Roger” like The Marina Suites has seen a better day but as we shared dinner overlooking the harbor we had a good time reminiscing about how back in the day (70’s) The Jolly Roger chain was one of the more popular spots in Southern California.
The next morning just as my bride predicted the sun rose over Oceanside, California and during our morning two mile walk we took in a different brighter side of the place many of our country’s finest call home. We walked all through the Harbor and soon realized that this ocean front community had its’ own unique personality and flavor. I am not sure I would be in a hurry to return to this adventure but as always this one was unique and fun in its’ own way. A stop at Dana Point’s Stack’s Pancake House for a delicious breakfast and the drive home up our beautiful coast through Laguna made this short adventure a little more palatable but as always it was great to be back home in The Bluffs.
